Wonka Was A Treat

The fantasy musical drama includes a stellar cast with Timothée Chalemet as willy Wonka. The film follows the early life of willy Wonka and how he turned his great dream in to the reality we know today.

The film felt like a warm hug. It’s the perfect film to see with your family and friends. I would even go as far to say that the film was a form of escapism. Especially with everything that is happening in the world, it was nice to get a sweet treat.

Throughout the film, we see Wonka trying to open up a chocolate shop, so the world can taste his finest creation. However, Wonka was met with corrupt business leaders who would do anything to see him fail. Wonka had a good overall message about the power of going for your dreams and not letting anything or anyone get in your way. Despite the setbacks he had, he still managed to succeed in creating world renowned chocolate.

It’s no surprise that Chalamet made a great Wonka, as his credentials show that he is an exceptional actor. So exceptional that the Golden Globes recently gave him a nomination for Best male actor in a musical/ comedy for Wonka.

It was refreshing to see Chalamet’s theatre background come to light. He usually plays dark characters, so it was very enjoyable to see him singing and doing a bit of choreography this time.

Another stand out performance for me was Calah Lane who played Noodle. Her chemistry with Chalamet shun through the screen. She was witty, cute, and sweet. Chalamet and lane share a duet on the song called ‘For a moment’ which was whimsical and heartfelt. Both their voices were in sync and blended so well together.

Wonka was a great insight to the willy Wonka we know and love today. It’s full of hopes and dreams, which is what we all need right now.
