I am sure we have all seen the latest Instagram flicks and Tiktoks about about Topicals Brand PR trip to Ghana during Detty December. For those of you who are new, Olamide Olewo is the ceo of the iconic skin care brand Topicals. During the December period, she invited black influencers to come to Ghana to create great media coverage for Topicals. And let me tell you, it was a success.
So Here are three reasons why Topicals’ PR brand Trip to Ghana was genius
- Good understanding of audience: Topicals Knows who their target audience is inside and out. They Understand their preferences and behaviours. They were very successful in tailoring their brand trip to appeal directly to the interests and needs of their audience. I mean come on, who doesn’t want to be a part of Detty December?
2. Influencer Partnership: What I loved most about this trip was that the collaboration with influencers aligned with Topicals brand and following. We saw the likes of Dami, Indiyah, Clint, Gabriel Moses, victor Kunda and so much more. It was refreshing to see that most of the influencers were black. This is such a rare thing to see as Other brands tend to avoid including black people on their PR trips. Kudos to Olamide and Ah-Niyah Gold, because as a young black woman myself, this was beautiful to see.

3. Post Event follow up: After the brand trip, influencers and Topicals continued with social media engagement by posting on their insta stories and Tiktoks. We also saw a lot of influencers do a recap of the whole brand trip on Tiktok and Youtube. This was nice to see because it felt like audiences were given the crackdown on what happened, so we didn’t feel left out.
The Topicals brand trip and content has given me so much serotonin. I cannot wait to see what Topicals has in store for 2024!
